After a full year of isolation, John and I decided to book a vacation for the summer. I wanted to go somewhere that wouldn’t be overcrowded, but near water – preferably a lake. Also, I didn’t want to travel too far from home (2 year olds aren’t great with long car trips). Since we live fairly close to the Poconos Mountains, it was the obvious choice for our low-key getaway.
I really wanted to find a house on a beachfront lake. We stayed on Lake Champlain in Vermont about 5 years ago. There was a beach directly across the street from our rental. It was awesome! I was hoping to replicate that experience, but in Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find any beachfront lake houses. There were houses on the lake, but no sandy beaches. It was a real bummer. So, we settled on a house in a lake community, with access to a beach.
After we paid for the lake house, we decided to go ahead and plan a trip to Hershey, Pennsylvania. I purchased Hershey Park tickets last year, before the pandemic started. They expire at the end of June, so we wanted to go before we lose that money. We booked a hotel for a 1 night stay next month.
This was the first time we used money from our vacation savings account. I have to admit, it was very nice having that money at our disposal. The best part is that even after paying for both trips, we still have money leftover in the account! My wheels are already turning for next year!
