Our youngest daughter loves unicorns 🦄. For the past year, I have promised to give her a unicorn bedroom. On Mother’s day weekend, I finally started on this project. It has been a long time coming, so let’s back up and start at the beginning.
After our last baby was born, several of our children switched rooms. As you’ll remember, our two older boys went into one bedroom. Then our youngest daughter left the nursery and moved into her brother’s old room.
When our daughter arrived in her new room, the walls were bright red, with Mickey Mouse everywhere. Although it was a kid friendly room, it never felt like our daughter’s space. She didn’t complain about the theme, but I wanted to give her a bedroom that she would truly love. A few weeks ago, I finally selected the perfect purple paint and the most adorable unicorn wall decor.
This room happens to be the smallest bedroom in our house. By today’s standards, the bedroom is essentially the size of a closet. The space is about 8ft x 10ft. It is tight, but we have managed to fit the bedroom basics into the space – a twin bed, chest of drawers, and bookcase. We even managed to squeeze a rocking chair into the corner.
My biggest fear about starting this project was the fire engine red walls. Convinced that the red paint would bleed through the lilac paint we had purchased, I decided to prime the walls twice. It was a hassle, but hopefully that extra work saved me time and money in the long run. Â The purple paint went on beautifully.
The room looks so cute. The purple walls and sparkly unicorn artwork are perfect for our daughter.
My five year old’s favorite part is the mounted unicorn head.
I purchased unicorn artwork on Amazon for a very reasonable price.
A unicorn room would not be complete without a rainbow.
It was a lot of work, but it was definitely a labor of love. My baby girl is happy, so I am happy.
