When it rains, it pours. Remember when I told you the story about our son meeting his health insurance deductible a month before it resets? Well, my youngest daughter decided to get in on the action too. Our poor little HSA has been put through the wringer.
Last week, John and I were in our backyard doing a few chores. Our kids were playing on the swing set. After a bit, we all headed back inside to relax. I walked into the living room and found my youngest daughter sitting on the couch. She had tears in her eyes and looked very sad. She told me her arm was hurting so much that she didn’t want to move it. As soon as I seen the way she was angling her hand, I knew it was broken. My gut told me to take her to the urgent care, so without hesitation we headed out.
The good news is that the urgent care was completely empty, and we were seen by a doctor immediately. The bad news is that he confirmed that she broke her arm. After fitting her with a splint, he referred us to an orthopedic doctor. The following day, we took her in to get her cast. Despite the trauma of the whole experience, she was pretty excited to pick out her cast color!
Once again, I am so thankful that we have our HSA. But after this little episode, I am pretty sure we aren’t going to have any money left in our account.
