This month in Savings, we were able to save our normal $500, but I also cashed in the change that built up in my coin cup that I keep in my vehicle. I’ve been putting any change that builds up into Savings. Every little bit helps. With that I was able to add an additional $36.44. We earned $7.12 in interest.
Unfortunately, We had a couple issues. Our van has always made a squealing noise in the winter. We’ve had it looked at several times, but no matter what the garage did, they could never fix it. It was hard to troubleshoot because it would go away once the engine warmed up, so we learned to live with it.
Last week, the squeal became a ticking sound, so I brought it in to our local garage. The good news is they fixed the ticking and the squeal. The bad news is, it costed $1,166. I had to transfer $1,100 into checking to cover that.
The other issue was, we started a college savings account for our 2 year old. We have savings accounts for each of our kids to help with college. It’s not meant to pay for their degree, just to help ease some of the burden.
We add $10 to each every week. We could see that wasn’t going to be as much as we wanted, so we do $10 until they are 13 and then we bump it up to $25 a week.
The minimum for the account was $1,000, so that was another hit to savings. On the plus side, we were still able to keep it above $20,000.
In Vacation we were able to save our normal $200 and an additional $200. Maybe some day we’ll be able to use it. I don’t want to go on vacation, be limited in what we do, and have to wear a mask everywhere.
Christy came up with the idea of renting a lake house and just let the kids swim in the lake all week. We plan on doing that when the weather warms up. We earned $1.30 in interest.
In our Emergency Fund we saved our normal $600 and an additional $100. I can’t wait until that is fully funded so that we can put that account out of mind.
