Our savings this month took another dive, but as with Madeline Albright’s feelings on half a million Iraqi children dying due to our sanctions, we think the price is worth it…Not the children, our purchases. I’ll see you in hell Madeline.
This month in savings we saved our normal $500 and earned $2.72 in interest. We took quite a dip because we made some investments into things that we needed.
Some could say it is a want, not a need, but to us, they were things we needed because they will improve our life as a family.
In September we will be traveling to Florida for a wedding, so we NEEDED new luggage. Do we have luggage, yes. We have a 3 piece set with a huge piece that will throw your back out when it’s full, a medium size bag that is good for one person for a week, and a duffel bag for toiletries.
We now have 7 people in our house. 3 of which are 10 and under so they will be growing, getting larger clothes that take up more room, and honestly, I’m surprised we got this far with the luggage that we have. Christy is great at fitting a lot of clothes into a space.
So, we transferred $565 to purchase Made By Design carry on luggage from Target for everyone. Christy and I had to get the same color because there were not 7 different colors to choose from, but each of the kids have their own color.
This will keep us from doing what we had to do when we flew to California – moving item by item from the huge bag to something else and have them continuously weighing the bag to not pay through the nose to check it.
Everyone will have their own luggage with their own stuff. No checking bags at the airport and if they can’t fit something in their luggage, then they don’t need it.
The next big purchase we made was new deck furniture. As we showed during our shiplap project, I accidentally ran my saw through our table. One of our chairs also has a broken back somehow as well.
But really, that’s not the reason we bought new furniture. The main reason is, like most sets, it only seats 6. We got away with our 3 year old sitting in a high chair and on peoples laps when we grill out, but it was time to give him his own seat at the table.
It was pretty pricey, but we ended up ordering Polywood furniture. Did we NEED one of the most expensive sets of furniture for our deck? No, but one thing that is very important to us, maybe even more important than price, is maintenance.
Christy and I aren’t people that enjoy cleaning things. We want our stuff to be as maintenance free as possible.
In vacation we saved our normal $300 and earned $0.64 in interest. We had to transfer $1,900 out to pay for our Airbnb for our trip to Florida.
The wedding is taking place on a cruise ship and the wedding party will stay and go on the cruise. That would have been really nice, but Christy and I aren’t really sure about bringing a 3 year old on a cruise (sometimes we don’t even want to bring him on a 30 minute drive), plus we have so many damn people it was cost prohibitive.
Instead we are going to Universal Studios for a few days, driving down for the wedding, and driving back to finish our vacation. We are really looking forward to it.
