As I’ve mentioned before, I really love the idea of being a minimalist. Keeping what you need and love, and letting go of the rest sounds so appealing to me. With 7 people in our house, I know the importance of keeping clutter to a minimum.
Some areas of our house are highly organized and efficient. My coat closet always stays tidy, because we only keep what we need. Each person has 1 coat and 1 jacket. Gloves, hats, and scarves are kept in baskets. I snapped this picture today, without tidying up anything.
My linen closet is also very organized. We added deeper shelves and plastic bins last year, and it has been a game changer. Because of my organization system, everything is always right where it is supposed to be.
I still struggle with clutter in a few areas of our house. Toys are always a battle. We used to have a play room, but as our family grew, we no longer had space to dedicate an entire room to toys. We moved most of the toys to this organizer in the living room.
Unfortunately, toys have a way of accumulating. I have had to add extra bins over the years. This really wasn’t a good solution, because now our living room looks cluttered and messy.
My living room currently feels cluttered and overwhelming. I want it to feel cozy and inviting. So, next weekend, John and I are going to work hard to declutter the toys in our house. It’s a never-ending battle to keep the chaos at bay. And it’ll get me one step closer to my minimalist dreams.
