Remember a few weeks ago when I was excited to spend the child tax credit money we received? Those were good times. It’s fun to dream, but we aren’t doing any of those projects. Instead, we’re going to be replacing our leaking roof.
We replaced our roof about 13 years ago. Unfortunately, we have had numerous leaks over the years (the last one sprung up about 2 weeks ago). The original roofer has attempted to patch and repair the roof several times, but every few months, we spring a leak in a new location.
For the last 6 years, we’ve been battling various leaks. Our ceilings are riddled with water stains. Even though the shingles should last 20 years, we know our problems are not going away. I think it’s pretty clear that our problem is not the quality of the shingles, but the quality of the workmanship.
So, our decision has been made for us. We won’t be going on our dream vacation or getting a fun new pool. Instead, we’ll have to be content with just staying dry during the next rain storm. Being a responsible adult is for the birds.
