When I was younger, I had no problem making decisions. I would see something, and I would just “know” that I had found the thing I had been searching for. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. In my old age, I have grown very indecisive. I second guess my decisions constantly, and it is exhausting.
John and I are trying to select new flooring for our kitchen. Unfortunately, we are very limited in our flooring choices. You see, our house was built in the 1960s, when asbestos flooring was all the rage. Our kitchen floor has the original asbestos tiles, which was covered with plywood and peel & stick tiles at some point. This set-up has created a height difference in our floors, with the kitchen being noticeably higher than the surrounding hardwood floors. We do not want to deal with the safety concerns or the expense of having the asbestos removed. We also do not want to add to the flooring height difference, so we decided to look for a thin glue-down vinyl flooring to replace the peel & stick tiles.
To add to the madness, I decided that I didn’t want anything with a fake wood grain. We have real hardwoods in the rest of our house. Having fake wood next to real wood would just accentuate that it’s a cheap imitation. So, I was hoping to find a thin faux stone luxury vinyl tile for the floor. I am sure you’re starting to understand why our search for flooring has been incredibly difficult.
We have visited various flooring stores, and we’ve been continually disappointed with our options. The best we’ve found so far is a glue-down luxury vinyl tile from Mannington. We loved the gray tile in the store. However, after doing some Google searches, we realized that the tiles had a lot of color variations. My indecisive nature crept in, and I couldn’t commit to the selection. I was super bummed, but I knew I couldn’t handle light tiles butted up against dark tiles. I needed something with a more consistent color.
Because I am so indecisive, I decided to visit to the flooring store AGAIN. I stumbled upon a book of luxury sheet vinyl. At the beginning of our search, I wouldn’t have even considered sheet vinyl. In my mind, it would just look cheap and dated. But I have to admit, I like the sheet vinyl better than anything else we’ve seen. Mannington’s Revive Series has some really cute patterns. These 3 are my favorites…
Right now, I am leaning heavily toward going with the luxury sheet vinyl. Now I just need to select a pattern. If history is any indication, I’ll be ready to make my decision sometime in the next decade .
