Or more accurately, if you give Christy a new kitchen, she’s going to want a new dining room to go with it. Yes, I want to redo our dining room now. It’s a minor project – just paint, a new overhead light, and maybe some new wall decor. I also wanted to cover our ceiling in bead board (like this), but John quickly shot down that idea. Apparently, he does not like home improvement projects as much as I do.
This entire project came about because of my intense love affair with the color blue. When you walk into our house, you are greeted by our adorable blue couches. As you continue, you’ll notice the lovely blue walls in our dining room. Rounding the corner into the kitchen, you’ll see our fabulous blue cabinets. It’s a lot of blue. A lot of the same shade of blue. What can I say? I am a creature of habit. I find something I like, and I run with it.
To break up all of the blue in our house, I am going to paint the dining room a different color. The last time I painted that room was nearly a decade ago, so it’s definitely time for a change. Right now I am leaning towards a dark moody green. However, I am also considering painting the dining room the same color as the living room (it’s currently a shade of brown). But we really like color over here, so the green will probably win out.
This definitely isn’t a frugal project. It’s actually pretty frivolous. But I enjoy making our house look beautiful. Also, I think it’s important to keep up with the times by updating fixtures and painting periodically. So, be on the lookout for a dining room update soon. And if the book is right, I am probably going to want a new living room to go with it.
