We started back to our regular homeschool schedule a few weeks ago. It’s been an adjustment for everyone in our house. I am trying to find a good balance, while still effectively meeting everyone’s needs. I am taking it one day at time, trying not to loose my mind.
My 1st grade daughter is in the thick of learning to read. It’s BRUTAL. If I am being honest, I really hate teaching kids to read. This is my 4th go around with reading, and it hasn’t gotten any easier. In fact, it may have gotten harder.
My 4th grade son should be my easiest to teach. He can read independently and his work is very easy for an adult to understand. The problem is his attention span. My son is so easily distracted. He is constantly out of his seat, not doing his work. I repeat, “Do your work!” roughly 500 times per day. It’s enough to drive a sane person crazy.
My 8th grader is not used to his increased workload this school year. It is taking him ALL DAY to finish his work. On top of that, I switched him to a more rigorous math curriculum. He is struggling to adjust to the new routine. Honestly, most days end with him in tears.
My 10th grader started her classes at the community college. The amount of work her English teacher assigns each week is CRAZY. We really have to work on our time management skills, to make sure she completes all of her work. We definitely don’t have it figured out yet, because I feel like she spends entirely too much time doing school on the weekends.
I have been feeling like I am hanging on by a thread. It has been hard to find the time to sit down and write on our blog. But, I know that things will settle down and get easier. Hopefully I’ll be back to regularly posting soon.
