We just got back from our first trip in nearly 2 years. I was feeling a little nervous about visiting Hershey Park with five children in tow during a pandemic, but it turned out to be a pretty awesome mini-vacation. For the first time in a long time, I felt like a normal person, living a normal life. We got a glimpse of life in the post pandemic world. It was amazing!
Last Sunday we drove to Hershey Park. It was sweltering outside. The temperature was an oppressive 95 degrees. As we got out of our van, I made all of the kids put on their masks. We made our way to the front entrance, but before even entering the gate, it felt hard to breathe. I was anticipating a long, uncomfortable day.
As soon as we entered the park, I noticed that everyone was removing their masks. At first it felt a little reckless and crazy, but the kids and I quickly followed suit. And it felt AMAZING! Seeing other people’s faces! Being able to breathe fresh air! It truly made the day even more special. We spent our time riding roller coasters and eating cotton candy. It was magical!
That night we stayed at our favorite hotel, and woke up bright and early to go to Chocolate World. Wanting to make the most of our experience, we booked a full day of chocolatey fun. We rode on the free chocolate tour, attended a chocolate tasting, watched a 4D movie, and even made our own personalized candy bars. Basically, we spoiled our kids rotten, and it felt great.
We really needed this trip. It recharged our weary pandemic hearts. I hope this is the beginning of our return to normalcy.
