Our house was a disaster when we purchased it. We have fixed problems in EVERY SINGLE ROOM. It is never ending. Fortunately, I love a good DIY project. But with so many problems vying for our attention, sometimes a project falls through the cracks. A perfect example of this are the closet doors in our nursery.
When we first moved in, the old closet doors were almost impossible to open and close. To add insult to injury, they were in bad shape, with dings and nicks everywhere. John and I quickly decided to throw away the doors. Instead, we hung curtains in the doorway. It was a cheap and easy way to hide the contents of the closet.
Eventually, I grew tired of the curtains. Our kids were always pulling on them, bending the rod and ripping it off the wall. So about 6 years ago, I asked John to install new sliding doors. He got right to work and made the project a reality. I was pregnant at the time, and we were trying to complete a million other projects before our baby’s arrival. Long story short, we never sealed the doors.
Fast forward a few years, and I had the brilliant idea to tape some pictures to the doors for our daughter. This was a horrible plan. When I removed the tape, it left behind marks on the raw wood. I knew the doors needed to be sealed with a polyurethane, but I continued to ignore this project.
I have been talking about sanding and sealing the doors since the tape fiasco. This past weekend, I finally made it happen. It didn’t turn out quite as well as I had hoped (I am a bit of a perfectionist), but I am happy that the closet doors are finally finished.
