We finally finished our dining room makeover. The space looks amazing! I am so happy with the wall decor, the paint colors, and the board and batten! This was not a very hard or time consuming project. Next Tuesday, I will go more in depth on the process and the cost of installing board and batten. Today I wanted to do the big dining room reveal!
Let’s start with some before photos. Our dining room has actually changed quite a bit over the last 15 years. When we first moved into our house, we didn’t have a dining room table. We used the space as a play room for our two young children. After the birth of our 3rd child, we outgrew our tiny kitchen table. We finally bought a larger table, and transitioned the playroom to a dining room. I painted and decorated this room in 2012.
After painting our kitchen cabinets blue last year, I decided that it was time for a change in the dining room. I have always loved the look of board and batten. I suggested the idea of doing an easy DIY version of the wall treatment to John. He was reluctant at first (he always is), but after showing him some pictures, he agreed that it would look nice in our dining room.
Our house is a small 1960’s ranch. I wanted to make sure this wall treatment was going to fit in with the aesthetic of our house. Although I LOVE chunky craftsman style trim and moldings, I knew we needed to keep it simple in our space. I decided to go with slim vertical boards and no top ledge. This pared down version of board and batten is absolutely beautiful in our dining room.
The space is so bright and welcoming. I love the way it turned out!
