We had a little more of a drop this month due my Father’s Day present (more on that in another post) and a trip back to KY for our oldest daughters choir performance.
It’s crazy how quick money goes. We only ate out for dinner and ended up spending $1,500! The biggest expense was taking the kids to Kings Island. It was good to get back there. Christy and I used to go there when we were kids and we haven’t been since she was 18 and I was in my early 20s.
We also spent some money going to the Natural History Museum. That’s always fun, but we weren’t able to use it to the fullest. It also came with access to The Children’s Museum, but we had plans with family so we had to cut it short. Plus, Christy and I didn’t really feel like them getting sick the last day and driving home with sick kids.
One fun thing we got to do was take the kids to Big Bone Lick State Park. Christy and the kids have never been there. I’ve only been once or twice when I was young. The only thing I remember was my mom buying me a corn cob pipe at the gift shop, a rope swing that went out over the water, and a white toy poodle biting me. I’ll never forget that little piece of shit.
It was a nice day though. We got to see some bison and learned that the entire area that we grew up was under the ocean millions of years ago. We also discovered the meaning of the name. Mammoths, giant sloths, and other extinct animals used to migrate there for the salt licks in the sulfur springs. Best of all, the park is free.
And as always, we ate at Mio’s Pizzaria where Christy and I met over 25 years ago. Well, not the one we met at. That is a Starbucks now because the owner (RIP Al Harless) sold it to 5 thugs that stole out of their own register and ran it into the ground. Christy showed up for work one day and they were closed. No notice to anyone. They are right up there with that white poodle.
We usually eat at the Mt. Washington location on Sutton, but due to convenience we ate at the one in Clifton after the choir performance at UC. That is NOT a Mio’s. Mio’s is a family friendly restaurant where the kids can draw with crayons on the paper tablecloth. That location is a bar that serves Mio’s food.
The food was great as usual, but a warning to our reader – DO NOT get the Monster stuffed pizza. It’s not that much bigger than the 13″ and costs twice as much. DO get the spinach bread, basil bread, and sides of creamy garlic dressing to dip things into.
Even though the trip took a bite out of our savings, it was good to get back and see our family. It has been too long.
This month in savings, we saved our normal $500 and earned $1.64 in interest. We transferred $1,508 to cover my Father’s Day present and our trip back to KY for our daughters choir performance.
In vacation we saved our normal $300 and earned .52 cents in interest.
